House Bill :: HB 933 :: Jessica Lunsford Act for NC
| Bill Description: | This is a wide-ranging bill that increases the penalties for sexual offenses and the restrictions on offenders' activities. It requires a penalty of either twenty-five years prison time plus lifetime monitoring or life imprisonment for those convicted of first-degree rape of a child under 13, first-degree sexual offense against a child under thirteen, or the newly-created crime of lewd or lascivious molestation of a child. It also makes sex offender registration requirements more stringent, requires local law enforcement authorities to notify their respective communities of the presence of sex offenders, and prohibits sex offenders from being on premises where children congregate. |
